A short trip to the village Polydroso (Tzitzina)

A short trip to the village Polydroso (Tzitzina)

On one of our planned excursions to Mount Parnon on May 1st 2025, we took a road that led us to the village of Polydroso, also known by its old Slavic name, Tzitzina. The village lies in the heart of the mountain, surrounded by lush green fir trees. As we entered the village, we found a beautiful traditional café where we had coffee and brandy, as well as a tavern that, from what we could tell, only operates on weekends. The peace and tranquility offered by this small mountain village was our reward for making the journey of over an hour to get there. This destination is one of the most ideal in Laconia for those who love the tranquility of the mountains, hiking among the fir trees, and good food. As one ascends the cobblestone alleys of the village, the architectural elegance of the stone houses gradually unfolds, harmoniously integrated with the surrounding natural landscape. The rivers that traverse the...

Your opinion matters! Spring updates from Peloponnese

Your opinion matters! Spring updates from Peloponnese

Dear friends As many of you already know, I am currently in the southern Peloponnese with the aim of speaking with local farmers. I am looking for new organic products to bring back to Berlin. My search has been successful. However, as I always do, I’d like to ask for your opinion. I’m thinking of importing to Berlin the following: green olives with or without pits, black olives (Kalamata), plain green olive paste and green olive paste with chili, black olive paste, and local sea salt either plain or blended with herbs. I’m also considering organic tahini and sun-dried tomatoes. I’m happy to report that the trip has been fruitful! But before making final decisions, I’d love to hear your thoughts — as I always do. Would any of these interest you? Do you have favorites or suggestions? Your feedback (as you know) is always appreciated. I would kindly ask you to send me a personal email with your ideas I am coming...

Our olive grove in April

Our olive grove in April

Every spring, I always take a walk through our olive grove. The fragrance of the flowers drifts through the air, meeting the footprints of wild creatures wandering leisurely here and there. Truly, spring is the most enchanting season of the year in Laconia — though the serene hush of autumn and the stillness of winter hold their own quiet beauty. A few kilometers away, across the plain, the orange trees, too, are celebrating the arrival of spring. The scent of their blossoms is simply extraordinary. The mingling aromas of the flowers and the fresh, pure air are reason enough for anyone to visit Laconia in April. If any of you happen to visit Laconia and find yourselves in need of advice or guidance during your stay, do not hesitate to send me a message.  ...

The best way to prepare mountain tea

The best way to prepare mountain tea

Besides the extra virgin olive oil of my farm, several friends visit me at Schillermarkt in Schillerkiez at the district of Neukölln exclusively to get mountain tea (from Mount Parnonas), a sort of tea of exceptional quality and famous worldwide. Especially the tea from mount Parnonas has a very high reputation. People who often visit the mountain from all over Greece, it's the first thing they look to procure. There is even an old saying in Laconia that goes: “gather tea on the mountain of Parnon and oregano on Taygetus”. The older generations knew well that the mountain tea from Parnon is special. The same goes for me, of course. You see, I grew up with mountain tea. There are many times I remember my grandmother when I was a child, when every time I had a cold she would brew mountain tea from Parnon and serve it to me with local fir honey from the mountain and lemon she...

An escape to the mountain of Parnonas in autumn.

An escape to the mountain of Parnonas in autumn.

Every year in autumn or winter I make a visit to the Southern Peloponnese. My aim is to look for new high quality products from the region. So this year we went to the mountain of Parnonas to spend three days in the mountain and combine it with this purpose. We found ourselves in Kosmas where the autumn landscape dominated every corner of the village. The central square of the village is a real gem. The large plane trees and the traditional architecture of the houses really give a unique character to the place. The food in the small taverns is also unique. Everything is local and the smells make you hungry all the time. Our first stop was at the village square in one of the central cafes. There we drank tsipouro and tasted the smoked trout that is brought from the opposite mountain, Taygetos, and specifically from the village of Kastori located at its foothills. We ate stew, mountain...

For the 2024 pre-order campaign of Berlin Oil Connection

For the 2024 pre-order campaign of Berlin Oil Connection

Dear Berlin Oil Connection friends. As you all know, the situation with olive oil production this year is particularly critical. In many regions of Europe, production has dramatically decreased. As a practical result, prices have exploded this year. However, this year's harvest for us has started normally and without any particular problems. The quality and characteristics of the extra virgin olive oil from our field are at a very good level again this year. However, the cost of bringing it to Berlin is very high. Inflation and climatic conditions, which are responsible for the decline in production, are the main enemy. That is why this year we will start our campaign earlier than planned. You can pre-order the amount of oil you need for next year, in this way you help us to bring it to Berlin. So we can keep a better price for all of you. For more info and orders you can always contact Berlin Oil Connection here: https://berlinoilconnection.de/en/contact/...

Vanilla Fir Honey soon from Berlin Oil Connection

Vanilla Fir Honey soon from Berlin Oil Connection

A walk in the local market of agricultural products in Skala Laconia was something I had wanted to do for a long time. But something always came up and I postponed it for the next time I would visit this small town located in the heart of the plain of Laconia. For those who don't know, Skala, is one of the most important centers of agricultural production in Laconia. The main agricultural product exported is citrus fruits (mainly oranges). Farmers in Skala produce of course also excellent quality vegetables, such as tomatoes and other vegetables. Skala is a centre of economic life in Laconia. The local market is held every Tuesday in a central point of the town and there are permanent places for producers from Skala and the surrounding villages in the area. The excellent quality olive oil soap that you can buy in Berlin from Berlin Oil Connection is produced by our friend Zoe there. A sunny Tuesday last...
