News about the 5LT canisters of the harvest 2024 – 25

Dear friends and followers I want to inform you that the pallet is already ready and has basically started its journey to Berlin - Neukolln. I believe it will arrive  by the end of next week or at the beginning of the week after. Those of you who have already prepaid for a quantity will receive a message from me as soon as possible. Since my storage space is not very large, I would prefer to distribute the canisters as soon as possible. For those who have not yet placed an order for the 5-liter canisters, there are still a few left. You might still be able to get a small quantity. Please drop me a line here In any case, if you have any questions, you can send me an email or stop by the Saturday market in Schillerkiez. I’d be happy to see you either way—maybe even over a coffee!...

An old mill in Geraki, Laconia.

An old mill in Geraki, Laconia.

This is a photo that brings back memories of another era. In fact, it brings it back to life. It depicts a windmill in Geraki, Laconia (a few klm from our farm), where the locals used to take their wheat on horses and donkeys to have it milled into flour. This mill is one of those that exist around the village as well as in the wider area. Some people older than me still remember that time. Behind the windmill, you can see the snow-covered Mount Parnon. You will soon be able to find more short stories from Laconia on my blog: https://berlinoilconnection.de/en/blog/category/blog/. special thanks to @christinemorenin (instagram) for this picture...

Traditional pies from Mani region (pites travichtes)

Traditional pies from Mani region (pites travichtes)

Laconia is a perfect destination for exploration on various levels. Beyond the natural beauty, the beaches, and the beautiful landscapes, food is also a great reason to visit. Laconia produces almost everything, from honey, olive oil, oranges, lemons, luxury wine to all kinds of vegetables. The meat also comes from the region. The oxen in Mani graze freely, as do sheep and other animals throughout the entire region. The fish is always fresh from the Laconian Gulf. I decided to start presenting to you the reasons you should visit Laconia. The first category is a food guide. In the photos below, you can get a taste of the traditional pies “Pita travichti” from Mani region. In appearance, it closely resembles the famous Hungarian Lángos. It is a delicacy made from dough fried in oil and is often served with the well-known kalamaki or souvlaki (pieces of meat in skewer) or with local graviera cheese. The photos you see here were taken today...

The best way to prepare mountain tea

The best way to prepare mountain tea

Besides the extra virgin olive oil of my farm, several friends visit me at Schillermarkt in Schillerkiez at the district of Neukölln exclusively to get mountain tea (from Mount Parnonas), a sort of tea of exceptional quality and famous worldwide. Especially the tea from mount Parnonas has a very high reputation. People who often visit the mountain from all over Greece, it's the first thing they look to procure. There is even an old saying in Laconia that goes: “gather tea on the mountain of Parnon and oregano on Taygetus”. The older generations knew well that the mountain tea from Parnon is special. The same goes for me, of course. You see, I grew up with mountain tea. There are many times I remember my grandmother when I was a child, when every time I had a cold she would brew mountain tea from Parnon and serve it to me with local fir honey from the mountain and lemon she...

Preorder Campaign 2024 – 25 is now open

Dear Friends of Berlin Oil Connection The harvest of the new year has just begun for us in our field in Southern Laconia. Soon the first olive oil will be produced, and we will know its characteristics. Everything seems to have started normally. Although in recent years the weather conditions have changed, for now, it does not seem to be happening in our field. As every year, this year we will bring to Berlin the high-quality extra virgin olive oil from our field for all of you. Our oil is produced separately at the mill, which is why we always know that its quality can be guaranteed for all of you. This year we expect that the 5-liter canisters will arrive in Berlin in early February 2025. We could perhaps bring the 5-liter canisters earlier, but the problem is that the olive oil needs some time in our barrels. The reason is that we do not filter the olive oil so...

How to prepare the best greek salad? It is as simple as that

How to prepare the best greek salad? It is as simple as that

Several of my friends send me photos of the meals they prepare with our olive oil. It's something I absolutely love and I would like to thank them so much for it. Here we see the traditional, Greek salad. A healthy dish of the Mediterranean diet that should never be missing from our table. How do we prepare a Greek salad for two people? It is very simple: We need two tomatoes (preferably organic), one red onion, half a cucumber (medium size), organic oregano (preferably from the southern Peloponnese), Kalamata olives, a green paprika and optionally feta cheese on top. We chop everything and mix it all together with our extra virgin olive oil and optionally a splash of vinegar. Within a few minutes the Greek salad is on your table....
