As beautiful as the neighbourhood schillerkiez around the Tempelhof Park is, so is the market that takes place every Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm at the Herfurtplatz markt (Shillermarkt) in the streets around the church. I of course, as a neighbour, have more reasons to love this market and my participation. You can’t imagine how much I enjoy talking to the people I meet anyway on my walks and in the beautiful cafes of Neukolln such as Laidak. Okay I know, it’s true there aren’t that many beautiful cafes left in the neighborhood, however there is still a beautiful energy in several of them.
However, the market around the church is not only beautiful because it has beautiful smiling faces that take a little walk every Saturday. It’s beautiful because all of the colleagues seem to enjoy it too. Really how beautiful is the whole mosaic of different languages spoken by both those who visit the market and those who work there. Languages such as Russian, Greek, Polish, English, Hebrew, Turkish and many other European and non-European languages make for a beautiful atmosphere.
All these languages, all these beautiful people prove how beautiful the multi-ethnic composition of our neighbourhood is. I would like to take the opportunity of this short article to thank all the people who support the effort to bring high quality extra virgin olive oil (of the Koroneiki variety) from a single field in Laconia every year. New and old friends and neighbors alike, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
